Steve realized his true passion was working with individuals to manage their portfolios, with the emphasis on growing their investments, while protecting their capital. When asked why he left a successful law practice to begin Lamb Capital, LLC, Steve shares,
“…Money is an intimate topic for people. At its best, it allows people to live out their dreams. At its worst, it is an ongoing source of pain and worry. I understand these struggles and derive great satisfaction from seeing my clients succeed. In fact, as a fiduciary, it is my legal duty to always make decisions in the clients’ best interests.”
Lamb Capital LLC was founded by Steve Lamb, a tax attorney, after he suffered a personal financial setback during the market crash of 2000 – 2002. This repeated itself in the economic and market downturns of 2008. Besides the fear and frustration of losing “meaningful money,” Steve realized what he had really lost – a sense of security for him, his wife and their two children.
He certainly wasn’t alone and saw many friends and colleagues experiencing the same financial losses. But for Steve, it wasn’t enough to just blame it on the economy, or big business or greedy Wall Street. He knew there had to be a way to recover and build strategies for keeping the cycle from repeating, no matter what future market trends may bring.
Given his knowledge and experience, he was in a unique place to make this happen. Steve began his career as a tax attorney in 1988 with the Charlotte law firm of Culp, Elliott & Carpenter. His role included advising high net worth clients on how to protect and preserve their wealth and how to pass that wealth along in the most tax efficient manner. Five years later, Steve opened his own law firm, The Lamb Firm, Attorneys at Law, continuing his work with businesses & individuals.
A native of Burlington, N.C., he received his B.S. in accounting from North Carolina State University. He then earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina, and his Masters of Law in Taxation from the University of Florida.
So with a much smaller personal portfolio and great determination, he dedicated himself to research, reading and interviewing. He read countless articles and talked to a steady stream of financial experts, trying to decode and interpret the differences between opportunities and empty promises.
After an extensive search, Steve found and partnered with Horter Investment Management, a Registered Investment Advisory firm with more than 200 advisors nationwide, due to their shared vision for lower risk and proven strategies for success in volatile markets. Through Steve’s relationship with Horter, Lamb Capital offers the same level of private wealth money management utilized by high net worth families and institutional investors including endowments, large charities and pensions.
Steve is an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR) with Horter Investment Management, LLC and a licensed insurance agent in North Carolina as well as a member of the National Ethics Association and the Better Business Bureau. He is a former tax attorney licensed in both the States of North Carolina and Florida and before the United States Tax Court.
